Rochester, N.Y. — One of the city's signature stores, Parkleigh, is getting an exterior makeover. Artist Jim Kiselica is painting new murals this week. "They're all going to be florals again, but they're not going to be like the original but more bouquet-ish," Kiselica said.
"But each bouquet is going to be a different set of flowers, but there will be a central theme for them. Of course, we're going to keep the black on white awnings because it's quintessential to Parkleigh." Kiselica, who served as the store's design manager from 1995 to 1999, originally painted murals on the Park Avenue building in 1999 before moving away.
He returned to repaint them in 2015. "It really touches my heart quite a bit because this is my home, and I got to leave a piece of me here," Kiselica said. The murals have become a popular backdrop for customers to take photos. Kiselica said he was recently given the opportunity to paint the third edition of the murals.
"It means a lot to me that I can move away, I can move to Florida, I'm now in North Carolina, and know that I have something that's making somebody happy here in Rochester."
